چکیده

adequately ventilate), or both hypoxic and hypercapnic. In addition, respiratory failure can be caused by an inability to protect the airway. Alterations in the normal physiology and anatomy of the respiratory system can lead to respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation. Anatomic alterations causing airway obstruction, such as tumors, edema, direct or indirect trauma, burns, or other such pathology, may result in respiratory failure. Central nervous system alterations caused by traumatic brain injury, intoxicants, and hemorrhagic or ischemic stroke can cause overt respiratory failure or loss of protective reflexes. Diseases of the peripheral nervous system may result in hypoventilation. Primary pulmonary diseases such as pneumonia can be manifested as ventilation-perfusion mismatch. Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can lead to hypercapnic respiratory failure. Cardiovascular disease may be accompanied by respiratory failure secondary to acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema, cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, acute valvular insufficiency, cardiomyopathy, or arrhythmias. Finally, global states such as shock from any cause can lead to respiratory failure.

Comparison of the effect of pressure support ventilation and volume assured pressure support ventilation on weaning patients off mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery

Background: Weaning from mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit is an important step in the treatment process. More patients in less than 6 hours after cardiac surgery can be separated from mechanical ventilation and extubated. However, 20-40% of patients after cardiac surgery, due to dysfunctional ventilator weaning response (DVWR), still remain under mechanical ventilation. Therefo...

بررسی عوارض ریوی ناشی از تهویه مکانیکی در نوزادان بستری در بخش NICU

Introduction & Objective: The main indication of mechanical ventilation is in the treatment of neonates with respiratory failure. With the increased use of mechanical ventilation, its complications have increased too. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of complications and short-term improvement in infants undergoing mechanical ventilation in the neonatal intensive care unit (...

Comparison of the Effects of Open and Closed Endotracheal Suction on Cardiovascular and Ventilation Parameters for Patients Undergoing Mechanical Ventilation

Background and Objectives: Suction is a necessary and common method which aids in the release of secretion from the respiratory system for the patients who have undergone mechanical ventilation. One of the most common complications of suction is hypoxemia which causes dysrhythmia and death. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of open and closed-endotracheal suction on cardiov...

Comparison of Fentanyl and Midazolam for the Sedation of Infants Under Mechanical Ventilation; A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS), a life-threatening pulmonary disorder, involves 1% of all deliveries worldwide. Shallow breathing causes restlessness in infants, which itself affects pulmonary function; thus, sedative medications are used to preserve better pulmonary function. There are different opinions about the benefits and superiority of these dr...
